We want our rescued pets to have loving, permanent homes and will do all that we can to match them with the right home and family. Please let us know what you are looking for in a new pet (i.e. personality, activity level, and family compatibility) so that we can help you find the perfect new family member! Pet ownership is a commitment of many years, and you will receive many years of joy and love from your new pet. All of our rescued pets live with a local foster family until their forever home is found. They are all checked by a veterinarian, current on their vaccinations, spayed/neutered and dogs are micro-chipped.
PANCHO IS IN HIS FOSTER HOME IN MEMPHIS, TN AND WILL BE TRANSPORTED TO CT ONCE HE IS ADOPTED!
Pancho has been living in his current foster home since June 15, which is the same day he was surrendered to Memphis Animal Services. He was selected by NBAR for rescue later that week but has remained in the same foster home throughout. He is approximately 1 year old and weighs just over 10 pounds. He is most likely a chiweenie (chihuahua/dachshund mix). His long, slender body and his nose are the shape of a dachshund, while his other physical characteristics and his personality are all chihuahua.
Chihuahuas were bred to be lapdogs, and Pancho takes this to the extreme. He is definitely a "velcro dog", meaning he attaches very closely to his primary caregiver and does not like to be out of that person's sight. He has some separation anxiety when left alone, which causes him to both distress bark/whine and chew up his bedding. For this reason, Pancho needs a home where someone can be with him for reassurance nearly all the time. He is truly well behaved (albeit protective of his chosen person) as long as he can remain with you. And he rides just fine in a car, so he can easily stay with you on-the-go.
As you might expect, Pancho sleeps in the bed with his foster parents, preferring to burrow under the covers. Because Mr. Pancho Villa craves attention, this pup is the perfect companion for that pet owner who wants to treat his or her tiny dog like a baby. As a rescue dog, there is no way to know what experiences have shaped him into such a clingy little guy, but he will need an owner who understands this neediness and is willing to help him feel comfortable and secure.
Weighing only 10 pounds leaves Pancho vulnerable to being injured by other dogs, dropped by distracted children, or stepped on by anyone he accidentally gets under foot. This means he is best suited to a calm home with no children under 12 years old and no large or aggressive dogs. This precious little cuddle bug is waiting to give his ideal adopter a lifetime of love and true devotion.
Pancho is up to date on all shots, neutered, and microchipped. His adoption fee of $500 includes the transport to CT. We use a licensed and registered USDA transport company that will bring Pancho up north to his new family.
