We want our rescued pets to have loving, permanent homes and will do all that we can to match them with the right home and family.  Please let us know what you are looking for in a new pet (i.e. personality, activity level, and family compatibility) so that we can help you find the perfect new family member!  Pet ownership is a commitment of many years, and you will receive many years of joy and love from your new pet.  All of our rescued pets live with a local foster family until their forever home is found.  They are all  checked by a veterinarian,  current on their vaccinations, spayed/neutered and dogs are micro-chipped.

Hello, my name is Hannah, and I am a full-blooded Treeing Walker Hound.  I am comparable to a larger beagle.   I am a very gentle and kind dog, and I am not a big howler either.   I weigh approximately 50 lbs. and I am now 3 years of age.  I was used for hunting raccoons and used to tree them.  I was found by a hunter after my back foot got caught in a trap and was left behind by my hunter in the wilderness.  I was unable to free myself, and I was also pregnant at the time.  (My puppies were all placed two years ago.)  Three of my back toes had to be removed surgically, and I do not put weight on that back leg/foot when I stand, walk, and run.  I do use this leg and foot for balance when I sit and rise from sitting and lying down.  My foot has healed, and I am not in any pain, but I do have some muscle/nerve atrophy in the lower leg/foot which causes my lower leg to somewhat draw up.  However, this does NOT impede my running and my speed.  I can run very fast when I want to and when I am allowed to do so in my fenced-in back yard and at a dog park.

I am housebroken and get along well with all people and other dogs.  I am also leash trained and walk well on the leash, and I ride well in a vehicle; I just jump right in!  I am also crate trained, but I do not need to be crated, except in the beginning of my life with you, you may wish to crate me when you cannot be with me, for a few hours.   But I don't believe I will need crating after I get used to your home and have time to realize that your home is also my home.  I have been spayed, was treated and cured of heartworms two years ago, and I am current on all of my annual vaccinations until March of 2014.  I have also been kept on the monthly heartworm preventative tablets.  I long to be your special loving companion, to be someone's or a family's "only dog" or share life with you and one or two other dogs.

Currently, I am in the foster home of Harry and Debby Mathewson of New Beginnings Animal Rescue in Memphis, TN.  I am doing well in my foster home, but I would love to have my own home.  If you are interested or want more information about me, please e-mail Debby and Harry at revsofmathew@earthlink.net, or call them at 901/396-5926 (home) or 901/652-5789 (cell).  You may also submit an application on-line to adopt me on the group's website: newbeginningsanimalrescue.net.  Thank you for taking the time to read my bio and possibly adopt me!

Hannah's adoption fee is $150 and includes all her vetting and a microchip.
