We want our rescued pets to have loving, permanent homes and will do all that we can to match them with the right home and family. Please let us know what you are looking for in a new pet (i.e. personality, activity level, and family compatibility) so that we can help you find the perfect new family member! Pet ownership is a commitment of many years, and you will receive many years of joy and love from your new pet. All of our rescued pets live with a local foster family until their forever home is found. They are all checked by a veterinarian, current on their vaccinations, spayed/neutered and dogs are micro-chipped.
ABIGAIL IS IN A FOSTER HOME IN THE MEMPHIS, TN AREA
Abigail was brought in by her owner for boarding six months ago. Unfortunately for this sweet girl, her owner moved in with his girlfriend and the girlfriend didn't like or want a dog. His solution was to abandon his dog.
Abigail was fourteen months old at the time. The Animal Hospital followed abandonment procedures and obtained legal custody. It turned out she was heartworm positive, had a mass on her side and needed to be spayed. Using a fund set up by the Animal Hospital, she became a "Special Friend" and we were able to take care of all her medical needs.
Abigail is finished with all medical treatments; the mass was removed and deemed clean, she has been spayed and her heartworm treatment completed. All her vaccines are up to date.
We try to get her out for an hour a day for some enrichment, socialization, stimulation and play time. However, she sits in a cage most of the day. She receives quality food, water, quick walks and attention from the staff, but this isn't a life.
What I know about Abigail from working with her these past six months: she gets along with my dogs, a Lhasa Apso foster, a 70 lb Lab-Boxer mix, and a 50 lb Pointer-Pitty mix. When we pick her up to go to our house, she jumps right into the car and loves the car ride. I have two cats that she was interested in. In fact, she received two goods swipes from and never got aggressive with them after that. She has spent time with our two small kids with no worries. Abigail also knows sit, shake and high five. She's a sweet girl. She is a bit skittish around men at first. It took about an hour before she opened up to my husband. Now she is all over him.
Abigail's adoption fee of $375 includes all the vetting that has been completed, her microchip and the transport fee to NY. We use a licensed and insured transport company to get our adopted dogs to their forever homes in the northeast.
